A warm welcome to our “Agents’ Corner”.

We hope the Agents’ Manual will answer most of the questions you have. Please also feel free to browse around the rest of our website, where you’ll be able to see more photos of Cape Town and inlingua, if you haven’t been to visit us yet.

Download the Agents’ Pack in the left sidebar if you would like to.

We are flexible and specialists at “tailor-making” specific programmes to suit individual clients’ (or groups of clients’) needs! Don’t forget the English on Safari trip – the only one in the world (as far as we know) where students travel with a teacher and learn English as they see the animals Africa is famous for!

Meet the Team

Administrative Team

Meryl van der Merwe – Director

Meryl has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Speech & Drama and Psychology, a TEFL qualification and years of experience in the corporate world of HR. These give her some of the skills, enthusiasm and professionalism that have kept inlingua one of the best English language centres in Cape Town for 18 years. When not working, she’s meditating, reading or spending time with friends and family - and when possible, travelling. India and Egypt are two favourite places.

Jane Diesel – Director

Jane has a teaching background and MA in TESOL, specialising in teacher training, ESP and course design. She has taught and/or run English programmes and teacher-training courses in Russia, Namibia, Angola, and South Africa. She has worked as a Cambridge examiner for the British Council, local tutor on the Distance DELTA and external moderator for the University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business AIM Programme.

Her free time is spent reading, exploring the winelands, catching up with friends or taking photographs of landscapes and flowers, preferably in Namaqualand.

Jennifer Gietzmann – Director of Studies

Born in Canada and raised in Australia, Jennifer finally settled in Cape Town after having lived and worked in the USA, Australia and Korea. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Japanese language and culture and has a Cambridge DELTA (Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults). She is currently studying towards her Master’s in Linguistics. Since1994, she has been working in the field as a teacher, teacher trainer and Director of Studies. When not working, her passion for photography and the outdoors take her on many adventures in and around South Africa.

What she has to say about teaching English: “The English language opens doors and changes lives both professionally and personally, and it gives me great joy to hear all the success stories.”

Joanne Lucas – Student Co-ordinator

Joanne has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology and English, TEFL qualification and a Diploma in Hospitality Management. She finds our excellent host families, matches students with them, organises transfers, tries to ensure everyone is happy – and sorts out problems if they arise. She motivates students to keep borrowing books from the library, helps with visa difficulties and any other challenges, and generally makes inlingua run smoothly. She can also answer almost any question about almost anything!
Her free time is spent with her photographer husband and two cats, family and friends.

Nichay Coetzee – Social Programme Co-ordinator

Nichay comes from a tiny town in the North West Province of South Africa and decided to move to our beautiful city to pursue a career in business management when she was only 17. She recently completed her national diploma in management and project management. Her calm, capable and enthusiastic personality allows her to multitask and assist with all of our students’ requests ranging from booking safaris to extending visas. As our Social Programme Co-ordinator, she makes sure the activities are fun and frequent and she always has a ready smile on her face.

What she has to say about being Social Programme Co-ordinator at inlingua: “What I find most rewarding is the fact that I know what it’s like to arrive alone in a new city and to feel a bit overwhelmed, so I really enjoy helping the students feel more at home and of course organising all the exciting social activities!”

Cape Town

Welcome!

inlingua Language Training Centre Cape Town

We are members of inlingua International, with headquarters in Switzerland and over 320 language schools in more than 35 countries. Founded in 1968, inlingua is a leader in language training worldwide. For over forty years, millions of people have benefitted from inlingua’s professional training, technology and expertise. inlingua Cape Town, opened in 1996 by Meryl van der Merwe and Jane Diesel, has continued the tradition and built up an excellent reputation for teaching, teacher-training, course design and study skills.

inlingua Cape Town – a superb training environment

We have 18 classrooms, a student room and computer area in a modern loft building. You can progress quickly in a small class or 1-1, speak English in and out of the classroom and enjoy the friendly, professional environment and the exciting social programme. There is Wi-Fi throughout the centre, and quiet areas for work. Or, if you prefer, you can relax and chat in the student room or on the balcony.

Planned trips and school activities

The Social Programme Co-ordinator arranges outings and activities to encourage everyone to see our beautiful city and surrounding areas. Volleyball on the beach, a walk up Lion’s Head, a trip to the Winelands or to Cape Point, dinners out, evenings at the theatre or listening to jazz, drumming and cultural experiences are all planned. Themed visits are arranged on request – cooking, wine-tasting or photography, for example.
